RESOLUTION 2024-82 RESOLUTION TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION TO REBUILD A GROIN AT PECONIC BAY PARK
WHEREAS, the beach at the Mattituck Park District Peconic Bay Park property has almost completely eroded away, leaving only the choices of retreat or building a truly beach-replenishing groin akin to the one prior to the current groin at the property;
WHEREAS, a groin that would be effective is longer than currently allowed by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), but the DEC can grant permission on a case-by-case basis to nonetheless allow people to build such groins, if persuaded the groin is appropriate;
WHEREAS, the Commissioners have reviewed the application prepared for them at no cost to the park district by adjacent property owners and found it complete and ready for submission;
WHEREAS, the Commissioners are submitting this application in order to start the conversation with the DEC about allowing an effective groin to be built, and make no commitment to building such groin even if allowed;
WHEREAS, the Commissioners are committed to not wasting Park District resources;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of the Mattituck Park District hereby agrees to submit the application and application fee prepared for them by the adjacent property owners.
